how do you prove your poetic worth?

is it through knowledge
of grammar and proper syntax?

or,
is it housed inside emotive
phrases?

is it through years
of being forced to read
literature that will be of benefit
to your future but; hesitate
to touch any soda pop art
at present?

the truth is there is no answer
because by the time you realise
what your poetic journey --
holds, its weight becomes
a casualty equal to shylock
and his pound of unrequited
flesh -- each time you scribe
a piece of you is released
-- by the time you are ready
to pass the last morsel
of your soul will be
lost inside of a zephyr
-- that will never allow
for it to touch
an earth not ready
to receive a fuelled
piece of -- stardust.
